After School Program for 2025-2026


We are pleased to have the funding for the 21st Century Grant restored and have been busy planning to launch the After School Program starting second quarter. Additional information is below.


Eligible Grades

  • Kindergarten through Grade 12

 

Registration

  • Registration Window:  September 25 through October 3, 2025
  • Login to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to register.

 

Dates

  • Monday through Friday on Unit 40 student attendance days
  • Quarter 2 Program Dates:  October 27 through December 15, 2025
  • Quarter 3 Program Dates:  January 12 through March 5, 2026
  • Quarter 4 Program Dates:  March 9 through May 15, 2025 
  • Final end date will be determined when the district calendar is amended and finalized for the year to reflect emergency days.
  • No program on November 11, 26-28 & December 12, December 22-January 9, January 19, February 16, March 6, April 2-6, April 24
  • Times
    • Grades K-8 will operate after school with parent pick up no later than 6:00 pm or with Unit 40 bus transportation home.
    • Grades 9-12 will operate tutoring before school from 6:45-7:30 am and after school program with parent pick up no later than 5:00 pm.

 

Locations

  • Grades K–2: Effingham Park District Ron Diehl Center
  • Grades 3–5: Workman Sports Complex
  • Grades 6–8: Stay at EJHS
  • Grades 9–12: Stay at EHS

 

Regular Attendance

  • We highly encourage and recommend for students to attend the full duration of the program regularly as much as possible. 

 

Cost

  • Currently the After School Program is free. 
  • In the future there may be a fee, but there is no cost to parents currently.

 

Daily Format 

  • Students in grades K-5 will be transported by bus to their assigned secondary site (K-2 Ron Diehl Center; 3-5 Workman). Between school dismissal and 5:30 pm, students will receive homework assistance and a snack. Then they will participate in enrichment activities, such as STEM projects, movies, crafts, organized games, and recreation.
  • Students in grades 6-8 will remain at Effingham Junior High School. Between school dismissal and 5:30 pm, students will receive homework assistance and a snack. Then they will participate in enrichment activities, such as STEM projects, movies, crafts, organized games, and recreation. 
  • Students in grades 9-12 will remain at Effingham High School. Tutoring will be provided from 6:45-7:30 am. For the After School Program between school dismissal and 5:00 pm, students will receive homework assistance and a snack. Then they will participate in enrichment activities, such as STEM projects, movies, crafts, organized games, and recreation.

 

Waitlist

  • Our hope is to have enough space and staff for all children wishing to participate in our After School Program. However, we may not be able to accommodate everyone. 
  • If our programs fill to capacity, we will have to use a waitlist. Registration closes on October 3 so that enrollments can be processed. 
  • By Friday, October 10, parents will be notified if the student is waitlisted and what to expect moving forward.

 

Infinite Campus Parent Portal

  • Login to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to register.
    • You can login to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account through the Infinite Campus app.
    • From a web browser:  Go to https://www.unit40.org/. Scroll to Quick Links. Click on Parent Portal to get to the login screen.
  • Once logged in, click on MORE and then Online Registration. To the right of After School Program Registration, click on the Start button.

 

Absences

  • A student who does not attend during the regular school day will not be allowed to attend the After School Program.
  • Absences for only the After School Program should be called into the school building absence line similar to other absences. Please specify if the absence is for the school day AND after school program, or if the absence is only for the after school program.

 

Transportation home from the After School Program

  • Grades K-8
    • Parent Pick Up:  Parent pick up will be no later than 6:00 pm. In order to respect the time of the staff, we expect punctuality when picking up your children from the After School Program. Your child must be picked up promptly at the end of the program. The After School Coordinator or Site Supervisor will discuss options with parents if the student cannot be picked up on time regularly.
    • Unit 40 Bus:  Bus transportation should have your child home between 6:00-6:30 pm. For Unit 40 bus transportation questions, call 217-540-1491 or email [email protected].
  • Grades 9-12
    • High school students will not be provided Unit 40 transportation to and from the program. Parents will need to drop students off at 6:45 am for tutoring. Parents will need to pick up students by 5:00 pm from the after school program.

 

Additional Pick Up Designees

  • Children participating in the After School Program must be signed out by you (parent/legal guardian) or someone designated on the registration form (designated person must be 16 years of age and on registration forms). When a child is released, the authorized person must sign the child out on our sign out sheet. No one will be released to anyone that is not on the registration form unless you notify us either verbally or in writing to do so. 

 

Late Pick Up

  • If your child has not been picked up by the end of the program, site staff will try to contact you and/or those individuals designated as emergency contacts in Infinite Campus. 
  • The After School Coordinator or Site Supervisor will discuss options with parents if the student cannot be picked up on time regularly. 

 

Code of Conduct

  • Participation in the After School Program is a privilege. All students enrolled are expected to show respect, follow the rules of the program, and display acceptable behavior. Disruptive or disrespectful behavior towards other students or staff is cause for dismissal. 
  • We encourage you to review the Unit 40 After School Program Handbook and to discuss concerns about your child's behavior with the After School Program Staff. 
  • The After School Coordinator or Site Supervisor will notify parents of inappropriate behavior. If gross misbehavior or a repeated violation of the rules occurs, parents will be required to withdraw their child from the program.  

Injury or Illness

  • When a child becomes ill or is injured during the After School Program, the parent/guardian will be contacted immediately. If the parent cannot be reached, our staff will adhere to the emergency contact information in the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus

  • Your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account should be up-to-date at all times for the following:
    • All Parent/legal guardian phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses
    • Emergency contacts (see Primary Household and Non-Household Relationships)
    • Allergies
    • Medications and Immunizations
    • Medical Conditions
